When employees are highly engaged, they view the organization\u2019s problems as their own.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even in difficult times, engaged employees stay motivated because they feel a personal responsibility for the success of the organization (Lombardo, 2014).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong><br \/>\nHow to improve employee engagement<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adp.com\/resources\/articles-and-insights\/articles\/g\/global-study-of-engagement-technical-report.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ADP Research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on global engagement, these two factors have the biggest influence on employee engagement:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>#1 &#8211; Teamwork<br \/>\n#2 &#8211; Trust in Team Leaders<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employees who say they are on a team are <\/span><b>2.3 times more likely to be fully engaged<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than those who do not work in teams (Chumney, Hayes, Wright, &amp; Buckingham, 2019).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, a worker is <\/span><b>12 times more likely to be fully engaged<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> if he or she trusts the team leader. Workers trust team leaders when they feel clarity about expectations and their strengths are recognized (Chumney, Hayes, Wright, &amp; Buckingham, 2019).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Build a culture of teamwork<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not enough for leaders to inspire and align their teams. They also need to be good at connecting teams together and sharing information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best way to create great teams is not by selecting employees for their intelligence or accomplishments (Lombardo, 2014). Rather, leaders should learn how workers communicate and shape teams in ways that encourage successful communication patterns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Build trust in leadership<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.adp.com\/resources\/articles-and-insights\/articles\/g\/global-study-of-engagement-technical-report.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ADP Study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> identified these statements as having the strongest relationship to a worker\u2019s trust in their leader:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAt work, I clearly understand what is expected of me.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have the chance to use my strengths every day at work.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To build trust, leaders should prioritize clarity and employee development opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Frequent 1-on-1 interaction between employees and leaders strengthens connection, builds confidence, and helps leaders understand how to best serve employees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leaders should ask individuals what they\u2019re focused on, areas where they are unclear, and help them connect overall business objectives with their personal goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Consistency is key<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The actions leaders can take to drive resiliency are relatively simple in theory. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Communicate effectively, create dynamic teams, build trust, and your organization can immediately reap many benefits.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But it is important to note that these initiatives must be ongoing to provide a long-term impact. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><strong>This isn\u2019t something you can just <i>set and forget.<\/i>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check-ins with employees must happen regularly and frequently, or employees will question whether engagement efforts are a real priority.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leaders must continually serve as role models for the organization and always demonstrate their personal connection to overall business goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And above all, a culture of engagement and resilience should be infused throughout the entire organization at all times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Want to learn more?
